Oklahoma City & Amiens
The School District of Amiens & the State of Oklahoma united through an agreement on educational cooperation
On March 27th 2007, the Académie (school district) of Amiens and the state of Oklahoma signed an educational cooperation agreement based on a major academic priority, increasing international programming in order to facilitate the mobility of students and teachers.
The French Ministry of Education

In the framework of this agreement, a program entitled “French American Student Fellowship” has been set up.

The agreement includes a three-year action plan, and its key objective is to promote individual and group youth mobility.

From March 2nd to April 10th 2010, six high school students from the Académie of Amiens, selected according to their subject of study, went on a two-week trip to Oklahoma City (United States) thanks to the “French American Student Fellowship”. This two-week program is a full linguistic immersion with several activities: class, completion of an independent , and a homestay with a host family!

This program, funded by the French Ministry of Education is developed only in the academy of Amiens in the framework of the agreement signed in 2007 with the State of Oklahoma.

Presentation
« French American Student Fellowship » is a program supported by the Ministry of Education and initiated only in the Académie of Amiens, which enables pupils of the region to complete a study trip in an American school.

The scholarships funded by the Ministry of Education cover the accommodation, trip and per diem fees.
In concrete terms, this program allows high school students from tenth grade to senior year to spend two weeks in an American school to complete a personal research project (related to their studies): 50% of the time is dedicated to their research work and the other 50% to the discovery of the American educational system, by taking part in classes in the foster high school. Moreover during 15 days, in order to live like real Americans, to have the chance to know another culture and improve their English, they are placed with host families.

The applicants must have a good level of English in order to plan their trip and complete their research independently. The research results have to be written in a form submitted to the foster high school and the French Ministry of Education, a month after the trip.

The steps of the project:

1. High school students choose their research subject, after discussing it with their English teacher.
2. High school students apply and are selected by a Board of Education admission jury.
3. Each selected student develops his preliminary research and the organization of his research trip.
4. The selected students are invited to an information meeting before they leave, organized at the Board of Education.
5. Stay in the USA
6. A report is submitted to the Board of Education, copies are sent to the foster school and to the French Ministry of Education
7. The high school students make their work known by their school and within the local community.
